(Open access) The authors find that employees discount work-related monetary tasks more than personal tasks, which they theorize is due to uncertainty around organizations

Behavioral Interventions *
1/25 Yagafarova, A., Dowling, E., LaMonica, T., Hantula, D.A., Nosek, J.T. and Jimenez-Gomez, C. (2025), Supporting Procedural Fidelity of Behavioral Interventions for Children With Autism via an Artificial Intelligence Platform. Behavioral Interventions, 40: e2075. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.2075
An AI app (owned by one of the authors) increased procedural fidelity for 2/2 staff in training and 2/3 parents by providing some kind of automated feedback.

1/29 Sorrell, J.R., Stratton, K.K., Bates-Brantley, K. and Wildmon, M.E. (2025), Training Future Teachers to Conduct Trial-Based Functional Analyses Using Virtual Video Modeling and Video Feedback. Behavioral Interventions, 40: e70000. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70000
The authors taught teachers to conduct TBFA with videos and video feedback, with only 1 participant needing further feedback

1/31 Wilder, D.A., Sheppard, C., Izquierdo, F. and Flynn, K. (2025), A Comparison of Medium Probability Versus High Probability Instructions to Increase Cooperation in the Context of the High Probability Instructional Sequence. Behavioral Interventions, 40: e70001. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70001
2/3 participants increased cooperation to the same level when using medium or high probability sequences; 1/3 increased cooperation with medium probability sequences, but not to the same level as the high probability sequence

2/1 Kelly-Sisken, S., Reeve, K.F., McPheters, C.J., Vladescu, J.C., Reeve, S.A. and Jennings, A.M. (2025), Comparing Equivalence-Based Instruction to a PowerPoint Video Lecture to Teach Differential Reinforcement Descriptors to College Students. Behavioral Interventions, 40: e70002. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70002
EBI was compared to a PowerPoint with voiceover, and posttest scores were mixed

Perspectives on Behavior Science
1/28 St. Peter, C.C., Harvey, O.B. & Aguilar, M. From Percentages to Precision: Using Response Rates to Advance Analyses of Procedural Fidelity. Perspect Behav Sci (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40614-025-00433-9
The authors note that while percentage is used ubiquitously in procedural fidelity measures (423/425 studies in JABA), rate can be used and may be more valuable in understanding data

1/29 Roth, D. Experiencing Nonduality on the Scientific Path: A Review of Sam Harris’s Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality without Religion. Perspect Behav Sci (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40614-025-00434-8
David Roth appears to like Sam Harris's book, as it attempts to operationally define concepts like meditation

Iversen, I.H. Levels of Replication. Perspect Behav Sci (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40614-024-00431-3
Iversen illustrates a principal of Pennypaker's, namely that moment-to-moment changes in behavior can represent replication (e.g., the same behavior with the same stimulus within several trials)

Behavior and Social Issues
1/29 Busch, L., Thomson, K., Powless-Lynes, M.Y. et al. Towards Ethical Spaces of Engagement in Behavior Analysis. Behav. Soc. Iss. (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s42822-024-00194-1
"Ethical spaces of engagement" is a concept wherein people openly discuss different worldviews and power dynamics

Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior *
1/27 Langford, J. S., Batchelder, S. R., Hughes, C. E., & Pitts, R. C. (2025). Effects of methylphenidate on sensitivity to reinforcement delay, magnitude, and probability: Implications for impulsive and risky choice. Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 1–19. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.4239
Stimulants can make subjects less sensitive to changing parameters of reinforcement. In this study, pigeons were exposed to changing parameters that have to do with "impulsivity" (size, delay) and "risk" (probability). Methylphenidate decreased their sensitivity to changes in impulsivity, but not risk

da Silva, R. F., de Carvalho, L. C., Couto, K. C., de Souza, L. C., Coelho, C., & das Graças de Souza, D. (2025). Pairs of rats cooperate more when responding to simultaneous reinforcement than to alternated reinforcement. Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 1–16. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.4240
Rats are more likely to coordinate movements to receive simultaneous reinforcement, when compared to individual reinforcement. Two weeks ago in TPR, we saw that pigeons are less likely to work together if they have to share reinforcement. These are some interesting social ideas

The Psychological Record
1/27 Cortés-Patiño, D.M., Craig, A.R., García-Mijares, M. et al. Effects of Alcohol Concentration on Choice and Persistence of Alcohol Seeking. Psychol Rec (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40732-024-00627-8
Rats exposed to a multiple schedule of two alcohol solutions, 5% or 15%, showed no differentiation in response rate but did show more persistence in extinction with the 15% solution. The authors conclude that rate of response and persistence are separate, which aligns with behavioral momentum theory

García, Y. A Global Vision for The Psychological Record: Innovation, Inclusivity, and Impact. Psychol Rec (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40732-025-00630-7
(Open access) The incoming editor looks to expand the diversity and reach of the publications in TPR

1/28 Brogan, K.M., Rapp, J.T. & Newland, M.C. Delay Discounting of Monetary Outcomes by Justice-Involved Male Adolescents and College Students. Psychol Rec (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40732-024-00617-w
(Open access) The authors used a hypothetical delay discounting task with three groups: justice-involved males, male college students, and female college students. The justice-involved males more steeply discounted than the other two groups

Journal of Behavioral Education
1/28 Lewis, T.K., Cariveau, T., Brown, A. et al. When Fluent Reading Isn’t: Sources of Stimulus Control during Fluent Picture-Book Reading. J Behav Educ (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s10864-025-09579-7
Kids with reading challenges were exposed repeatedly to the same books, and in most cases their "fluency" improved -- but when reading new books, they had the same challenges. The authors take this to mean that the "reading" was a tact response

Moroney, B.N., Reeve, S.A., Reeve, K.F. et al. Using Contingency Management with a Deposit Contract to Increase Toothbrushing Accuracy with College Students. J Behav Educ (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s10864-025-09581-z
Contingency management increased toothbrushing accuracy

Journal of Contextual Behavioral Science
1/28 Advancing the assessment of psychological flexibility: Development and validation of a novel context-sensitive measure in people with chronic physical illness
A measurement tool was found to be reliable and valid

Business world

Autism services, behavioral health, etc.

Disastrous Tech Failures Clobber Autism Therapy Providers in TRICARE West Region
TriCare, essentially the medical insurance provider for the US military, reluctantly provides ABA services as required by law. Now they have some kind of severe problem with their billing system, leading to providers not being paid in the West.

Accidentally behavior analysis

A mainstream news article that relates to behavior analysis

RFK Jr. kept asking to see the science that vaccines were safe. After he saw it, he dismissed it, AP
If you “show the science” to a person like this, here is what will happen:

What can we learn from this sequence? “Providing evidence” on demand is not a real request, and cannot change anyone’s mind.

Flashback

Vaccines (still) don’t cause autism

This topic has been completely and totally debunked (3 freaking years ago) in entertaining fashion by Hbomberguy, a video game youtuber. He does the unprecedented: goes through Wakefield’s paper and reads all the citations – something clearly never before done by the media (besides Brian Deer). In fact, I believe I have a unique take on Wakefield’s paper, coming soon…
