Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis *
3/14 Hronek, L. M., & Kestner, K. M. (2025). A human-operant evaluation of commission and omission errors during differential reinforcement of other behavior. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1–21. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70003
In a human operant experiment, subjects were exposed to a DRO with commission or omission errors. In commission errors at 60% fidelity, responses reached a rate above baseline. In a condition where the error rate was randomized, the rates were higher than when the errors increased in a stepwise fashion

Behavior Analysis in Practice Volume 18, Issue 1 March 2025 (25 articles, 1 open access)
Most intriguing: On the Disruptive Effects of Behavior Analysis on Behavior Analysis: The High Cost of Keeping Out Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Training
Mark Dixon and Steve Hayes propose that ACT/RFT will permanently change behavior analysis by challenging the direct contingency model with relational frames

Behavioral Interventions *
3/11 Celik, K. and Olcay, S. (2025), The Effectiveness of Cool Versus Not Cool Procedure in Teaching Chemical Safety Skills to Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder. Behavioral Interventions, 40: e70011. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70011
Cool/not cool is a simple procedure wherein appropriate behaviors are labeled "cool" and inappropriate behaviors are labelled "not cool"; ironically the procedure has more evidence in its favor than does Social Stories. The authors used cool/not cool to teach 3 autistic children to be safe around chemicals, and they outperformed conventionally developing children on the skill

Perspectives on Behavior Science Volume 48, Issue 1 March 2025 (11 articles, 3 open access)

(Open access) Parent training is more effective when it is responsive (e.g., immediate praise of parent behavior) than when it is directive (e.g., telling parents what to do)

Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior *
3/12 Nas, O., Albayrak, D., & Unal, G. (2025). Of rats and robots: A mutual learning paradigm. Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 1–26. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.70004
(Open access) The authors attempt to pair a rat and a robot to engage in cooperative tasks. In simulations, the rat and robot work together. In real life, the rats appeared not to discriminate clearly between the reward signal (robot turns right) and the punishment signal (robot turns left), and 2/8 rats did not interact with the robot

Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 1–18. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.70005
The authors share their blueprints for a cheap way to study nicotine intake in rats; plans are here

The Psychological Record
3/12 Sbrocco, G., Harte, C. & de Rose, J.C. The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend: Adults Derive Arbitrary Sameness Relations through Trained Opposition. Psychol Rec (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40732-025-00637-0
Some authors argue that stimulus relations are explained only by equivalence, nonequivalence, and exclusion. The authors trained relations using "opposite" and "same" relations, and were able to generate equivalent relations, which they argue could not be explained by only equivalence, nonequivalence, and exclusion. Their data is here

Journal of Behavioral Education
3/11 Hurtado-Parrado, C., Coha, A. & Shawler, L.A. A Manipulation of Exercise Intensity on Academic Engagement and Stereotypy Based on Physiological Measures. J Behav Educ (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s10864-025-09584-w
Antecedent exercise decreases stereotypy and increases measures of engagement; the authors manipulated intensity using heart rate as a measure and found that they could get consistent effects

Journal of Contextual Behavioral Science
Adding implementation support to a universal Acceptance and Commitment Therapy-based school well-being intervention: A cluster-randomised controlled trial
Schools implemented an ACT intervention with standard support or enhanced support. There was very little difference between the two groups

Reading comprehension loses out in the classroom, The Hechinger Report
Would you be surprised to find out that teachers generally do not use evidence-based practices to teach reading comprehension? In fact, some teachers don’t teach it at all. The Wing Institute is a great resource, where we found this study suggesting that explicit instruction of reading comprehension works, which is essentially Think Aloud Pair Problem Solving (TAPPS)
