Journal of Behavioral Education
4/6 Ampuero, M.E., Robertson, R.E. Comparing the Effectiveness and Efficiency of Behavioral Skills Training and a Brief Performance Feedback Intervention During the Training of Paraeducators Supporting Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. J Behav Educ (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s10864-025-09588-6
(Open access) BST is a gold-standard training method for performance, but it is time consuming. This intervention was brief performance feedback, wherein the performer was given feedback about correct and incorrect steps in a task analysis, and it was comparable in efficacy to BST with less time needed. Written instructions only were significantly less effective

Maurilus, E.N., Greer, R.D. Establishment of Preference for Math Activities over Play-Doh® in Four Preschool Students. J Behav Educ (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s10864-025-09587-7
Students were given math instruction, which established preference over Play-Doh for some students; the remaining students required stimulus-stimulus pairing to establish a preference for math

Trump and Kennedy Spouting Dangerous Autism Misinformation

BACB
Inside the BACB: Understanding the Updates to the 2027 BCBA and BCaBA Requirements
This is a “podcast,” which is actually the CEO of the BACB, Dr. Jim Carr, reading a statement. He attempts to provide more of a rationale for ending DEI requirements. Again, it amounts to caving to threats (or, more likely, potential threats) from state and federal government organizations. New York and California public schools have not agreed to comply with actual orders from the federal government, while the president of Wesleyan University is standing up for their values.

Kennedy sets September deadline to identify cause of rising US autism rates, Reuters
Spearheaded by one of the extremely red slur-users in the current admin, money will be sunk into discovering the cause of autism while cutting funds to care for the autistic. One of two things will occur: 1) they will settle on publishing actual scientific information, leaving us in the same place where we started, or 2) vaccines. Or perhaps in September we’ll have results “in two weeks.”

Fight over phonics: Will California require the ‘science of reading’ in schools?, Cal Matters
For a close look at the battle between effective practices and philosophy, look no further than this article. Some people are arguing that phonics is not appropriate for ESL students (???), while schools that have used phonics-based curriculum see results:

Last year at Bonita Unified, near Pomona in Los Angeles County, which uses a phonics-based program called Benchmark, English learners scored nearly three times higher than their peers statewide.
