12/17 Kaur, J., Frank-Crawford, M. A., & Borrero, J. C. (2026). Unmasking social functions: Outcomes from a retrospective consecutive case series of 19 applications. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 59(1), e70045. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70045
Sometimes an FA leads to the conclusion that behavior is automatically maintained, but when protective equipment is used, it can lead to the discovery that there is an attention component (e.g., putting on the equipment involves an interaction). In looking at data in a retrospective consecutive case series, the authors found that over 26% of automatic SIB cases had a social component

12/18 Allen, A. E., Bridges, K. G., Pizarro, E. M., & Morris, S. L. (2026). Comparing methods of evaluating sensitivity to common establishing operations and bias toward challenging behavior. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 59(1), e70046. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70046
The authors conducted FAs where they reinforced both appropriate and inappropriate behavior, and "traditional" FAs where they only reinforced problem behavior. The traditional FAs saw more problem behavior, while the symmetrical contingencies saw greater sensitivity to EOs

Behavior Analysis in Practice
12/15 Angley, S.M., Breeman, S.L. & Helvey, C.I. A Review of The Supervisor’s Guidebook: Evidence-Based Strategies for Promoting Work Quality and Enjoyment among Human Service Staff. Behav Analysis Practice (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40617-025-01143-z
The authors review the 3rd edition. They refer to this review of the 2nd edition, published in JABA last year. On the one hand, we could use more book reviews, but on the other, it doesn't seem like it's necessary given the limited changes. Check out the 1st edition here

Nguyen, J.T., Tsami, L., Lerman, D.C. et al. An Interdisciplinary Telehealth Model to Increase the Comfort and Cooperation of Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities During Routine Dental Exams. Behav Analysis Practice (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40617-025-01139-9
(Open access) 30 participants who had previously been restrained during dental exams were examined during a baseline condition, where 22/30 participants completed the exam. The remaining 8 received coaching via telehealth to conduct behavioral interventions at home, with increasing complexity. 7/8 of those participants completed an exam with a dentist who was coached by the experimenters, but this did not generalize to a new dentist who was not coached

Waite, M.R., Kodak, T.M. & Whang, A.J. Development and Validation of a Caretaker-Implemented Ear Cleaning Teaching Protocol for Companion Dogs. Behav Analysis Practice (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40617-025-01135-z
The authors trained dogs to engage in veterinary-care behaviors, such as a chain that allows for ear cleaning. This was accomplished in free-operant fashion, using a constructivist approach (e.g., "puts chin on mat" instead of "does not move head") and positive reinforcement

12/16 Kristiansen, S.V., Tereshko, L.M., Dyer, K. et al. Enhancing Supervision through Compassion: Registered Behavior Technicians’ Perceptions of their Supervision by Board Certified Behavior Analysts. Behav Analysis Practice (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40617-025-01137-x
In a survey of 205 RBTs regarding their supervisory experiences, the authors found the lowest scores related to the interpersonal relationship

12/19 Tryggestad, H., Eldevik, S., Eikeseth, S. et al. Staff Training to Improve the Preschool Educational Environment for Children with Special Needs. Behav Analysis Practice (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40617-025-01123-3
A 4 hour workshop and biweekly coaching for 17 weeks increased quality (per a program rating scale), as well as other measures. They focused on increasing communication and contriving mands during meals

Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions * Volume 28 Issue 1 (6 articles, 2 open access) Most intriguing: Using the Caught Being Good Game in the Community: Increasing Prosocial Behaviors Among Children at Risk of Adverse Childhood Experiences
(Open access) The Caught Being Good game increased prosocial behaviors and decreased disruptive behaviors, and the kids liked it. The adult in charge didn't think it worked that well

The Psychological Record
12/14 Kubo, N. Effect of Effort on Pigeons’ Choice between Waiting With and Without Work Requirements: A Pilot Study. Psychol Rec (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40732-025-00670-z
4 pigeons chose between "wait" and "wait plus response"; the responses were either high- or low-effort. 3/4 pigeons preferred the wait plus low response-effort; 0/4 pigeons preferred wait plus high response-effort. People and animals alike do seem to prefer contingencies

Journal of Contextual Behavioral Science

Brazilian Journal of Behavior Analysis (REBAC) Vol. 21, N. 2 (10 articles, 10 open access) Articles in Portuguese, abstracts in English
Most intriguing: A Proposed Definition of Community Based on Skinner (1953)
"Our analysis indicates the possibility of defining community as a collective of people who interact recurrently with each other under common contingencies, characterized by a common history and shared social environment. This category would be distinguished from the use of the term “group” by emphasizing historical and diachronic aspects."

Single Case in the Social Sciences Vol. 2 No. 4 (4 articles, 4 open access)
Utilizing a High School Student as a Reading Interventionist: Merging Cross-Age Peer Tutoring and Brief Experimental Analysis for a Student with a Specific Learning Disability. (2025). Single Case in the Social Sciences, 2(4), 1-13. https://doi.org/10.15763/issn.1936-9298.2025.2.4.1-13

In this study, 1 kid was taught to play variably and repetitively, and showed a slight preference for repetition

HHS' health tech arm wants input on how to accelerate adoption of AI in clinical care
The current administration is pushing (...why?) to increase AI in medicine. The current administration is attempting to limit state efforts to regulate AI. They’re bringing “AI experts” into government to slop it up. Just don’t use AI to tell you about the weather, which is increasingly WOKE
