Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis *
10/26 Van Arsdale, A., Perrino, N., Clark, R. J., Ibañez, V. F., & Vollmer, T. R. (2025). Computer-based training to teach structured mealtime assessment skills. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1–17. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70039
14 undergrads and 2 RBTs watched video modules to learn how to conduct a pediatric feeding assessment, and all increased their skills
10/28 Jones, L., Brand, D., Bensemann, J., Heinicke, M. R., Penrod, B., & Burlison, S. (2025). A translational approach to investigating the effects of consequence-based procedural fidelity errors postmastery. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1–12. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70042
24 undergrads completed a computer-based matching to sample task to 100% fidelity, followed by introducing consequence-based errors (e.g., reinforcement delivered after a mistake). 13/24 had an increased error rate, while 11/24 did not. Generally consequence-based errors (commission errors) have been found to be more impactful than omission errors
10/29 Torelli, J. N., Snyder, S. K., Griffin, M. L., Hellemn, M. P., Cagliani, R. R., & Morgan, G. A. (2025). Life skills evaluation in a kindergarten special education classroom. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1–16. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70041
(Open access) The Preschool Life Skills (PLS) curriculum was adapted for a special education kindergarten class, and there was a finding of increased and maintained life skills
Behavior Analysis in Practice
10/27 Yingling, M.E., Hamilton, J., Nastally, B.L. et al. Estimating Network Adequacy of Autism Service Providers in Affordable Care Act Markets. Behav Analysis Practice (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40617-025-01103-7
Applying CMS standards, most networks for ABA services nationwide would be rated inadequate based on distance to a provider
10/29 Lawson, C., Cividini-Motta, C. & McCammon, M.N. Teaching Caregivers to Implement the Picture Exchange Communication System: An Evaluation of Video Modeling. Behav Analysis Practice (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40617-025-01106-4
3 caregivers watched video models to learn to implement PECS. All 3 learned and maintained the skills. Their children also all increased their independent manding
Journal of Organizational Behavior Management * Volume 45 issue 4 (5 articles, 1 open access)
Most intriguing: When less is more: Exploring the relation between delay discounting rates in a personal and organizational context
(Open access) In Mexico, about 76 people administered delay discounting questionnaires showed a bias towards discounting at work
Behavioral Interventions *
11/1 Ramirez, Alexandra, Yanerys León, and Janelle Bacotti. 2025. “ Further Evaluation of a Fixed-Lean Approach to Facilitate Schedule Thinning Following Functional Communication Training,” Behavioral Interventions: e70057. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70057
(Open access) When a fixed lean schedule was introduced to fade reinforcement after FCT, 2/3 participants used discriminated mands and maintained low rates of problem behavior while 1/3 required a more progressive fading schedule
Cascarilla, Allison N., Matthew T. Brodhead, David J. Cox, and Cherish M. Sarmiento. 2025. “ Delay Discounting and Teacher Decision-Making of Behavioral Interventions,” Behavioral Interventions: e70058. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70058
(Open access) The authors administered a monetary delay discounting questionnaire and a treatment questionnaire, and found that teachers discounted monetary delays and treatment outcomes, and that geographic area has some bearing on discounting. In their second phase they found that more severe behavior leads to steeper discounting of treatment outcomes
Perspectives on Behavior Science
10/31 King, H.C., Kranak, M.P., Falligant, J.M. et al. Discriminative Properties of Reinforcers Modulate Resurgence: Evidence from a Systematic Review. Perspect Behav Sci (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40614-025-00482-0
In a literature review, the authors look at 6 studies that proposed a contextual view of resurgence, wherein the availability of a reinforcer is a discriminative stimulus for a behavior based on prior association
Behavior and Social Issues
10/31 Yamaguchi, M., Iwamoto, J. & Matsuda, S. Measuring Gender Stereotypes Among Japanese University Students Using the Implicit Relational Assessment Procedure (IRAP): A Systematic Replication. Behav. Soc. Iss. (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s42822-025-00229-1
It appears that, using the IRAP in a Japanese sample, the authors did not find significant differences in labelling for male- and female-coded adjectives. However, they argue that their findings support previous findings of sexism (?)
Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior *
10/26 Gomes-Ng, S., Cowie, S., & Elliffe, D. (2025). Revaluing overselected stimuli: Effects of degree of posttraining extinction on stimulus overselectivity. Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 124(3), e70060. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.70060
In a complex translational experiment, the authors tested 459 subjects on a computer-based selection task. When an overselected stimulus undergoes extinction, an underselected stimulus sometimes exerts control, particularly when the underselected element is sometimes or always reinforced
Journal of Behavioral Education
10/31 Curiel, E., Rajter, M., Gomez-Alonso, J. et al. A Comparison of Response Cards and Guided Notes with College Students. J Behav Educ (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s10864-025-09608-5
Guided notes (pre-written notes with blanks that students are expected to fill in) were compared to response cards (e.g., a yes/no card to hold up to answer questions as a class) in college students. Guided notes did not differ from baseline, while response cards increased quiz scores by 15%, and students preferred response cards

Centene Highlights Efforts to Push Back Against Elevated ABA Spending
Centene continues a consistent theme of payer complaints about the costs of ABA. In fact, it sounds like they put up onerous barriers in order to weasel out of paying for treatment:
In one state, [CEO Sarah London's] task force guided state partners to “increased precision in ABA clinical service definition as well as more stringent supervisory and caregiver engagement requirements.” The result: a 45% reduction in outlier payment rates. London did not specify the state.
But is ABA the problem when your company loses $6.6B?

Why One Reading Expert Says ‘Just-right’ Books Are All Wrong, KQED
Many schools are in thrall to “reading levels” – and kids are not allowed to check out books above or below their level. In theory, this results in kids reading books that are slightly challenging, without being too easy or too difficult. At least one expert believes that this is limiting some kids.
