Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis * Volume 58, Issue 3 (13 articles, 7 open access)
Most intriguing: An analysis of the generalization of pretend play from real objects to toys
(Open access) Most play is assumed to proceed from toys to real items; this was counterintuitive but effective
7/27 Frampton, S. E., Vesely, S. E., & Jackson, K. (2025). Teaching undergraduates to solve equivalence problems by using cover, copy, and compare: A translational study. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1–16. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70026
(Open access) The authors used cover, copy, compare (write notes, cover them, attempt to write them from memory, uncover notes and compare the two) to teach 3 equivalence relations between sets of 3 stimuli. They then moved on to 3 sets of 5 stimuli. The subjects scored over 90% on posttests
7/29 Blackman, A. L., DiGennaro Reed, F. D., Gunter, M., & Braren, B. (2025). The effects of group virtual training and self-monitoring on leading a meeting. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1–16. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70024
Authors taught the participants to lead effective meetings using online group training alone, or paired with self-monitoring; training alone was ineffective, while the package was effective in teaching the skill
Behavior Analysis in Practice
7/31 Enders, O.G., Kostewicz, D. Evaluating the Effects of an Algebraic Frequency Building Intervention for Students with Disabilities. Behav Analysis Practice (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40617-025-01082-9
(Open access) Precision teaching was used to increase fluency in algebra for 3 students. Additionally, in a talk-aloud pre- and post-test, the students went from guessing to using established problem-solving techniques
Behavior and Social Issues
7/29 Fleming, W. Issues of Systematization in Culturo-Behavior Science. Behav. Soc. Iss. (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s42822-025-00207-7
Fleming wants to establish a molar framework for analyzing culturo-behavioral systems that can describe functional relationships in non-behavioral terms
Busch, L., Kotsovilis, S. Reinforcing Injustice: A Complex Adaptive Systems Framework to Address the Criminalization of Indigenous Life. Behav. Soc. Iss. (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s42822-025-00216-6
A description of the justice system in Canada, which is nominally progressing but is generally oppressive to indigenous peoples -- so, neoliberal -- and how it can actually change through culturo-behavioral systems
8/1 de Mello Frighetto, M., Couto, K.C., Sandaker, I. et al. Human Resources as Common Pool Resources: Analyzing a Volunteer-Based Pandemic Project Through Ostrom’s Framework and Culturo-Behavior Science. Behav. Soc. Iss. (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s42822-025-00214-8
Elinor Ostrom's 8 rules for governing common resources were used to examine the practices of 3 mental health teams that were active during Covid in Brazil. The teams that more closely adhered to the rules experienced less turnover and burnout. Also, did you know that the "tragedy of the commons" is entirely hypothetical?
Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior *
7/27 LeComte, R. S., & Reed, D. D. (2025). Differences in reinforcers earned and unit price predictions: A comparative study of concurrent progressive schedules. Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 124(1), e70043. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.70043
Progressive ratios are not often used outside of the lab; the authors compared them to progressive durations. In some ways they were similar, but they were found to be different in unit price in switchover patterns
7/28 (2025), 2024 Guest Reviewer List. J Exp Anal Behav, 124: e70036. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.70036
It is literally just a list of names that is perhaps 100+ long. We'll reprint them all here:
The Psychological Record
7/29 Guerin, B. The Forces that Shape Human Behavior: Combining the Behavior Analysis Approach with Social Science Knowledge for a More Exhaustive Framework to Analyze and Change Human Behavior. Psychol Rec (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40732-025-00654-z
(Open access) Guerin describes 3 forces that dictate behavior: society, group, and individual contingencies. He quotes Marx, so he's in good company

Inside the Private Equity Scam—and the Livelihoods It Has Destroyed
Journalist Megan Greenwell has a new book, Bad Company, about her experience at a company that was acquired by a private equity firm. Private equity claims that they are business geniuses that can flip a company for a profit. But what if profits for the private equity firm were not contingent on profitability of the purchased company? What if Flip or Flop was about a weird divorced couple who figured out that, instead of remodeling, they could sell the floorboards for scrap, sell the land, and charge a consulting fee?

Mary Had Schizophrenia—Then Suddenly She Didn’t, The New Yorker
An incredible story: a woman with schizophrenia is treated with immuno-suppressant drugs for another disease, which causes her schizophrenia to disappear. This has happened before; in fact, a large German study provides evidence that 1-5% of all schizophrenics have a similar condition. There is an implication that, for at least some people, an environmental trigger has caused what has always been considered a genetic and intractable disease.
