Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis *
10/7 Brown, K. R., Franzmann, T. K., Hurd, A. M., & Lavin, A. (2025). Further evaluation of language skills correlated with discriminated responding in multiple schedule arrangements. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1–14. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70037
Multiple schedules are sometimes used in fading with FCT, but one challenge is discriminability of reinforcement and extinction components. The authors found a correlation between expressive language and discrimination of schedules, and in particular expressive color identification
10/10 Waits, R. A., & Gilroy, S. P. (2025). Development and evaluation of a simultaneous bilingual communication intervention protocol for autistic children. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1–14. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70038 The first author is named "River A. Waits," which may not be a joke. Kids instructed in different bilingual approaches (blocked and mixed) learned to discriminate between languages without explicit discrimination instruction

10/ 8 Cameron, C., Skurski, M. & Alligood, C. Development and Demonstration of Paired Stimulus Preference Assessment and Embedded Reinforcer Validation with Adult Gorillas. Behav Analysis Practice (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40617-025-01107-3
(Open access) Two gorillas at Disneyworld were subject to a paired-stimulus preference assessment. The preferred items were then tested as reinforcers by using them to assess compliance with previously trained health routines (e.g., tolerating injections). The identified items did function as reinforcers
10/9 Sigwanz, G.E., Salazar, G., Bacotti, J.K. et al. Evaluating the Feasibility of Methods of Live Data Collection for Sociability Assessments. Behav Analysis Practice (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40617-025-01101-9
(Open access) Sociability assessments are like FAs for different types of social interactions, but can require intensive data collection. The authors conducted 1 role play and 1 clinical assessment, testing no data collection, momentary time sampling, and duration, and including measures of performance fidelity and IOA. They found that performance fidelity and IOA data were high, and MTS and duration measures reached similar conclusions
Behavioral Interventions *
10/6 Parthum, E., G. W. Rooker, K. Britwum, and B. Retzlaff. 2025. “ Application of Abductive Reasoning in Synthesized Contingency Assessments.” Behavioral Interventions: e70046. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70046
In an IISCA, synthesized (combined) reinforcers are used in a functional analysis. The authors ran several combinations to see if a single reinforcer could maintain behavior, and found this to be true in 1/3 cases
10/8 Vecchia, Brittani E., Sharon A. Reeve, Jason C. Vladescu, Kenneth F. Reeve, and Carleana R. Hickey. 2025. “ Using General-Case Procedures to Teach Graphing Skills to Undergraduate Students,” Behavioral Interventions: e70049. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70049
General-case procedures are an instructional design philosophy that attempts to structure teaching so that it is simple but covers all use cases. The authors used this method for designing training to graph in Excel, which was effective
Denegri, Samantha, and Rocco Catrone. 2025. “ Using Acceptance and Commitment Training and Behavior Skills Training to Enhance Therapist Pairing Skills,” Behavioral Interventions: e70050. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70050
ACT training resulted in temporary increases in correct steps of rapport building, but 2/3 participants needed BST training to reach criterion
Taylor, Pierce M., Celeste M. Tevis, and Samuel L. Morris. 2025. “ Improving the Function of Social Interaction: A Preliminary Evaluation of a Basic-Research-Informed Approach,” Behavioral Interventions: e70051. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70051
The authors used a translational approach of increasing reinforcer delivery under progressive ratio schedules and evaluating the effectiveness of increasing social play
Tryggestad, Hege, Sigmund Eldevik, Ellie Kazemi, Sheri Kingsdorf, and Svein Eikeseth. 2025. “ Enhancing Supervisor's Feedback Skills During Paired Stimulus Preference Assessment,” Behavioral Interventions: e70043. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70043
4 supervisors engaged in 8 hours of training, including 5 hours of instruction and 3 hours of BST, to increase feedback during a paired-stimulus preference assessment. Supervisees increased their skill on the preference assessment, and 2/4 supervisees increased their own feedback skills after experiencing feedback from their supervisors
10/10 Kaye, Rachel E., Joseph Vedora, Daniel Almeida, and Nicole DeRosa. 2025. “ Using Antecedent and Functional Analyses to Conduct a Treatment Comparison on Echolalia,” Behavioral Interventions: e70052. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70052.
Studies on echolalia usually investigate stimulus control, but this study also looked at maintaining consequences and compared a function-based intervention with an unmatched intervention
10/11 Roth, Hannah, Emily Chesbrough, and John M. Falligant. 2025. “ Response-Class Hierarchies in Self-Induced Vomiting: Functional Assessment and Treatment,” Behavioral Interventions: e70048. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70048
Emetophobes, beware. In an adolescent male with multiple diagnoses, self-induced vomiting, gagging, and pica were assessed with a functional analysis. They found that the behaviors were in a response hierarchy maintained by attention, and successfully treated with FCT, extinction, and a complex token system
Perspectives on Behavior Science
10/6 Schedlowski, J., Maes, J.H.R., van Asselt, R.J. et al. Identity Matching and Stimulus Equivalence Learning Paradigms for Memory Rehabilitation of Explicit Memory Deficits: A Scoping Review. Perspect Behav Sci (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40614-025-00475-z
(Open access) In a literature review, the authors identified 23 articles that used some type of stimulus equivalence training for subjects with memory deficits (e.g., dementia). The evidence is mixed, in part due to a lack of rigorous research
Behavior and Social Issues
10/6 Mastrogiacomo, L., Foley, K. & Weiss, M. A Systematic Literature Review of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Collaboration Across Disciplines. Behav. Soc. Iss. (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s42822-025-00227-3
The authors identified 12 articles that involve collaboration between a behavior analyst and at least 1 other professional. The results are summarized, but there was a lack of quality measures, generalization, or maintenance
Van, J., Doeman, S. & Kubina Jr., R. The Classroom Learning Screening (CLS) as a Behavior Analytic Tool for Educational Equity: A Call to Action. Behav. Soc. Iss. (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s42822-025-00228-2
(Open access) The Classroom Learning Screening, an assessment developed in 1981, uses repeated measures of individual students rather than comparing them to a norm-referenced sample. This avoids certain biases, and is individualized. The authors argue that this can be a superior system, conceptually
Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior *
10/7 Stein, J. S., Tegge, A. N., Brown, J. M., Curran, K. M., & Bickel, W. K. (2025). Does e-cigarette nicotine strength influence substitution for combustible cigarettes? Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 124(3), e70056. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.70056
(Open access) Smokers bought fewer cigarettes and more e-liquid when cigarette prices increase, but e-cig users don't buy more cigarettes if e-liquid prices increase. Also, nicotine strength does not impact purchasing
Mason, M. G., Richardson, E. J., Giarrusso, C., Murphy, S. M., Bruce, K. E., & Galizio, M. (2025). Transfer of a novel discriminative function across functional stimulus class members in rats. Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 124(3), e70055. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.70055
(Open access) Rats were taught two 6-member classes, then trained to respond to the left or the right for 1 member of each class. Later there were probes to see if they would respond to other members of the class by responding to the left or the right, despite no direct training. 5/6 rats responded to the first probe, but only 2/6 responded consistently to probes of the other members of the class
10/8 Kimball, R. T., Kranak, M. P., Bernal-Gamboa, R., Gámez, A. M., Nieto, J., & Mason, T. A. (2025). Evaluating the combined effects of renewal and response-dependent reinstatement. Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 124(3), e70057. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.70057
Renewal is when previously extinguished behavior returns due to a change in environment but not contingencies (e.g., going from a clinic back home). Reinstatement is when a previously extinguished behavior returns due to accidental reinforcement. The authors combined the two phenomena first in a basic experiment with rats, then with a translational experiment with college students, and found that the effects were magnified when renewal and reinstatement were in effect
10/10 Hempkin, N., Sivaraman, M., & Barnes-Holmes, D. (2025). Three contextual cues and their influence on naming in children. Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 124(3), e70059. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.70059
(Open access) Naming objects (tacting) can develop in children incidentally, from watching adults name things. The authors tested whether various cues facilitated naming (e.g., saying "This is ___"), finding that partial and full cues do facilitate naming when compared to no cues
Education and Treatment of Children
10/5 Indelicato, A., Shawler, L.A. Parent-Implemented Multiple Schedules to Decrease Challenging Behavior: An Extension. Educ. Treat. Child. (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s43494-025-00167-y
The authors taught a parent to use multiple schedules with thinning to decrease challenging behavior, which was effective
Journal of Behavioral Education
10/8 Cheng, K., Yi, Z., Moeyaert, M. et al. Synthesizing Single-Case Experimental Designs: Modeling Complex Data Structures. J Behav Educ (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s10864-025-09602-x
The authors conducted a Monte Carlo simulation of using different types of models to analyze data from single-case designs. They found specific models with moderate complexity were most effective
10/9 Meran, S., Scott, T. How do Preschool Teachers Spend Instructional Time? Frequency of Opportunities to Respond and Feedback During Whole-Group Instruction. J Behav Educ (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s10864-025-09604-9
Observing 8 preschool teachers over 12 weeks, the authors used software to find that the teachers gave about 3 opportunities to respond per minute and praise:correction at a 4:1 ratio. We would like to meet these mythical beasts
