Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis *
10/9 Goldman, K. J., & Becraft, J. L. (2026). Measuring caregiver and student detection of treatment effects: Sensitivity to changes in frequency. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 59(4), e70089. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70089
In an analogue task, undergrads selected scripted videos wherein they detected a decrease in aggression, representative of a treatment reduction. The majority of participants selected videos with a decrease of 70% or greater

Cure, G., & Gulboy, E. (2026). A systematic review and meta-analysis of educator-implemented functional communication training. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 59(4), e70088. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70088
In a metaanalysis, 15 single case studies were identified where an educator implemented FCT. Overall there were strong effects on communication and challenging behavior

Behavior Analysis in Practice Volume 19, Issue 3 (51 articles, 13 open access)
Most intriguing: Are Keynote and Invited Speakers at State Behavior Analytic Conferences Experts on Their Presentation Topics?
(Open access) This article sparked a bit of a discussion: should keynote speakers be "experts"? Is authoring a published peer-reviewed article evidence of expertise? Is the field best represented by experts?

Behavioral Interventions *
10/4 Vladescu, Jason C., Sarah G. Segal, Lauren K. Schnell-Peskin, and Jessica Day. 2026. “ Teaching Adults to Recognize and Respond to Suspected Opioid Overdose: A Proof-of-Concept Evaluation,” Behavioral Interventions: e70150. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70150
Naloxone quickly, easily, and cheaply reverses opioid overdoses, but requires a small amount of training to use successfully. The authors gave manufacturer instructions to 3 adults during a simulated task, and none of the 3 adults reached mastery criteria. When trained with BST, all 3 successfully reached criteria

10/7 King, Hunter C., Alexander M. Pauls, Seth King, et al. 2026. “ A Systematic Review of Tangible Reinforcers During Functional Communication Training,” Behavioral Interventions: e70147. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70147
In a literature review, the authors identified 116 studies dealing with AAC use, and categorized stimuli used in the studies as "high-tech" or "low-tech." The most common high-tech stimuli was a tablet device, while the most common low-tech stimuli was edibles

Perspectives on Behavior Science
10/5 Hayashi, Y. A Behavioral Economic Analysis of the Intention–Behavior Gap. Perspect Behav Sci (2026). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40614-026-00517-0
(Open access) The author conceptualizes "intention" as self-mands, which may or may not control behavior; when intentions do not control behavior, there is an "intention-behavior gap" (sometimes conceptualized as "correspondence"). This can be from discounting a delayed outcome, or overvaluing an immediate outcome, which can inform interventions (illustrated here)

Behavior and Social Issues
10/6 Delemere, E., Neuroth, A., Gray, S. et al. Unravelling Fast Fashion: Analysing Multi-level Cultural Contingencies in a Global Industry. Behav. Soc. Iss. (2026). https://doi.org/10.1007/s42822-026-00267-3
"The fashion industry," believe it or not, has an immense effect on the climate due to production strategies. The authors conducted interviews and identified 3 metacontingencies to target for intervention: "manufacture and design practices, aggregate product available to purchase by consumers, and group rules surrounding textile consumption"

Education and Treatment of Children
10/7 Common, E.A., Mathur, S.R., Clark, H.G. et al. Introduction to the Special Sections of the 47th Annual Teacher Educators for Children with Behavior Disorders (TECBD) Conference. Educ. Treat. Child. (2026). https://doi.org/10.1007/s43494-026-00196-1
5 articles that originated in a late-2024 conference in Arizona

Journal of Contextual Behavioral Science
10/7 Development and Validation of the Parent Communication Avoidance Scale for Youth of Korean Descent in Japan (PCAS-KJ)
(Open access) The Parent Communication Avoidance Scale for Youth of Korean Descent in Japan finds that, among the immigrant group in Japan with the highest suicide risk, kids who avoid discussions with their parents have higher distress scores

European Journal of Behavior Analysis
10/5 Albrecht, C., Pereira, E. S., Silva, V. A. B., McIlvane, W., & Hanna, E. S. (2026). Auditory and visual discrimination under titrating delayed matching-to-sample. European Journal of Behavior Analysis, 1–15. https://doi.org/10.1080/15021149.2026.2742047
Delayed match-to-sample tasks are generally more accurate with visual stimuli, as compared to auditory stimuli. The authors manipulated the delay and tested auditory and visual matching in 12 university students. They found that visual matching was more accurate, and auditory matching was less accurate even with no delay. Manipulating the delay between modalities until accuracy is similar could be a way to compare these matching tasks

Aetna Execs Prioritize Autism Services, Intelligent Triage in 2027

CVS Health’s (NYSE: CVS) health benefits segment, Aetna, plans to invest in its autism services with new tools for virtual diagnosis and family support.

Wow, investment! That would be –

“But from an employer standpoint, from a payer standpoint, the cost component is causing at least us to really pay attention to it [ABA]. So that’s why the holistic autism solution we’re putting in place is really trying to solve for that.”

– unexpected…

30 Ideas for Fixing U.S. Schools, Ranked by Experts, NYT
Considering the possibilities, this article is not terrible! The survey finds that experts value small group tutoring at #1, followed by “the science of reading.” Each, when done well, would truly be worthwhile for schools. They also recognize that school vouchers are a waste. But at #4, we see “increase per-student funding,” which in fact does not have a linear relationship to student achievement.
