Paper-Crumpling Study About the Nature of Anger Is the Best Thing I've Read in a Long Time, 404 Media
404 Media, a journalism project borne out of VICE killing itself, mainly produces excellent pieces about tech. In this case, the author describes a study wherein participants received deliberately negative and rude written feedback, wrote about how they felt about the feedback, and either left the paper on a desk or crumpled it up and threw it away. The people who threw it away felt better; this is, more or less, an ACT exercise that I found reference to in ACT Made Simple (2009) (p 118), though without the “throwing away” aspect. The key is to personify the thought or emotion as outside the self.
