Behavior Analysis in Practice
6/10 Valentino, A.L., Fuhrman, A.M. & Beck, J. The Development of a Calculator for Objectively Evaluating Supervisory Behaviors in Practice. Behav Analysis Practice (2024). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40617-024-00946-w
The authors created an objective scoring system for a supervision meeting; the appendix has a fairly complete overview of what they qualify as "high quality supervision"
6/14 Mondati, A.D., Reeve, S.A., Vladescu, J.C. et al. Remote Teaching of AB Graphs in Microsoft Excel. Behav Analysis Practice (2024). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40617-024-00943-z
Asynchronous graph training (with an Excel spreadsheet, a youtube video, and feedback) resulted in correct graphing conventions in less than 1 hour on average. The supplementary information has a link to the Excel sheet, which itself has a link to the youtube tutorial
Behavioral Interventions *
6/10 Wilson, S., Cividini-Motta, C., MacNaul, H., Salinas, R., & Ferrer, G. (2024). Preference for social stimuli: A comparison of stimulus modes used in preference assessments. Behavioral Interventions, e2034. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.2034
The authors compared preference for social stimuli using a comparison of video, pictures, and drawings. Videos appeared to engender the highest correspondence with actual preference, followed by pictures and drawing; however the video was most time-consuming
6/14 Ethridge, A. N., Kemp, J. M., Edgemon, A. K., & Richling, S. M. (2024). Teaching basic personal finance to justice-involved youth. Behavioral Interventions, e2035. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.2035
In a juvenile facility, a packet combined with rehearsal and feedback were moderately effective at teaching personal finance skills; the packet is available in the supporting information
Behavior and Social Issues
6/11 Olla, R., Houmanfar, R.A., Sengupta, S. et al. Systematic Analysis of Individuals’ Perspectives on Cybersecurity Using Q Methodology: Implications for Research and Application in Behavior Analysis. Behav. Soc. Iss. (2024). https://doi.org/10.1007/s42822-024-00174-5
Computer science majors and psychology majors have overlapping concerns about the internet, which include privacy and safety on a community level
Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior *
6/9 Ning, K., Green, L., & Myerson, J. (2024). Individual differences in the discounting of combination outcomes in which immediate gains are followed by delayed losses. Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 1–8. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.929
A translational study that tries to look at more complex models of delay discounting, wherein varying sizes of delayed loss were found to be discounted differentially. That is to say, gains and losses (and their delays) can be valued differently, which surely impacts real-world decision-making
Elcoro, M. (2024). Why history matters: A review of Watters's Teaching Machines, the History of Personalized Learning. Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 1–11. https://doi.org/10.1002/jeab.928
The history of teaching machines has serious relevance to behavior analysts, and should have obvious implications for online learning. See also: Bill Ferster's book on teaching machines

Behavioral “Foundations” (What if it’s Too Late to Save the World?)
Tom Critchfield makes a post about culturo-behavioral change, but an alarming underlying message might be: what if we should shift our concern to rebuilding after the world is ruined? Perhaps infamously, Skinner became a bit pessimistic in old age

Retaining employees takes a clear career path and investment in employees, but but but what if you are not able to continually wring increasing profits out of ABA?? Maybe a CEO will parachute in from another industry (home health? addiction?) who realizes you can just eliminate investment in employees, since that's a cost! If it doesn't work you can always try the same strategy as a CEO in some other industry

Did a White Professor Sexually Abuse Her Disabled Black Patient—Or Was it Love?, The Daily Beast
Facilitated communication was debunked 30 years ago, and has been debunked regularly ever since. A now-infamous case of facilitated communication involved a woman, Anna Stubblefield, believing she and a severely disabled man had fallen in love. If you examine the previous literature linked above, you will find that she actually fell in love with herself.

Flashback
Why, then, did Anna Stubblefield use a long-discredited technique to abuse a man? The blame should lie with one man: Doug Biklen, still (mystifyingly) affiliated with Syracuse University, who made it his life’s mission to push FC for decades. Every field has its villains (George Rekers deserves some consideration), but few fields are villainous.
